Town of Callicoon moves forward with demolition

JEFFERSONVILLE - Last month, Town of Callicoon Code Enforcement Officer Kris Scullion reported that there were two contractors interested in the demolition of the old Callicoon Center fire building on 1678 Gulf Road. In January, the Callicoon Town Board gave the owners of the building, the Callicoon Center Fire Department, two months to get it completely demolished and removed.

At their meeting on Monday, March 11, Supervisor Tom Bose reported that there had been no word from the Fire Department on the demolition.

“The building was supposed to be demolished by now,” Bose said. “We don’t want to drag it out anymore.”

Since the Fire Department did not get it knocked down, the Town will now advertise demolition bids for the building. Bose said that once they finish the process of demolition, they will submit the bill to the Callicoon Center Fire Department. Town Attorney Marvin Newberg said that they can receive three bid proposals.

Scullion gave an estimate on how much the demolition will cost, saying he believes it will be around $15,000 and definitely less than $35,000. Newberg said that as long as it is under $35,000, they can do Request for Proposals (RFPs).

Youngsville water tank

Per advice from Delaware Engineering, the engineering firm in charge of the project, the Town set a special meeting regarding the Youngsville Water District’s new water tank. At the special meeting, the town will open up award bids for the Youngsville Water District new tank project.

The meeting date will be 10 days after their regular town board meeting on April 8, April 18 at 4 p.m. Bose said the release of funding occurred this week and that the state wants them to be in contract by May 8.

“The meeting date on April 18 will allow us enough time to meet the deadline set by the state,” Bose said.

Mark Blauer, the consultant on the project also advised them for a language change in their town procurement policy to allow for equal opportunity.

The town also set their spring cleanup dates for Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26 from 7 a.m. till 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m.
