SULLIVAN COUNTY – The Eldred Yellowjackets took out the Unatego/Franklin Spartans with ease last weekend with a 56-22 victory. The Yellowjackets now hold a 10-2, 4-1 record. They will face the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks (10-2, 4-0). The last time the Yellowjackets came close to making it this far was back in 2009 when they made it to the state semifinals. Eldred is on a six-game win streak with their average win coming by more than 24 points. The Mavericks lost their first two games of the season in September but that didn’t deter this squad. They [the Mavericks] are on a ten-game win streak after their win over Taconic Hills last weekend to a similar tune of 56-21, defeating their opponents by an average of 40 points this season. The championship is on the line for both of these teams. This will be an exciting matchup as they head into the state championship today at noon in Cicero, NY. There may be potential for a Saturday snow date game due to the forecast for some inclement weather in Syracuse today.
