A bonus 24 hours

Yesterday, for the first time in four years, we all were gifted with one more day — thanks to the leap year.    That’s 24 whole hours more of living, with all of the complexities and the simplicities mixing together to form another day. So the question must be asked; with all that extra time – did you use it well?

Sure, it was just one day, and honestly, how much can realistically be done in just one day? We’re all still human with our limited time and one more day isn’t much to make great change. However, it really isn’t just one more day of February we were all given. It was another chance.

Another chance to laugh at a gut-busting joke; another chance to dance to the catchiest part of your favorite song; another chance to make small talk with family and strangers alike — the moments where life feels most treasured.

These examples, and so much left unsaid, are ways that time can be used well – thankfully the ability to appreciate these interactions are not limited to just one extra day in February. As the world moved into the month of March, it is as good a time as ever to break out of the cycle of gray mundanity and open up to recognition and reflection.

But don’t look back too long now! Whether it was a day of appreciation, or just another day, what is gone is gone and there’s no getting it back. Instead, find the beauty in tomorrow and today. Try to treat every day like it is a bonus one – because at the end of the day, they all are.
