MONGAUP VALLEY –– As the summer winds down so does playoffs action for the Sullivan County Women’s Softball league. Callicoon Pantry and We Care met for the second time in this series. Only one game remains after this Bears’ win. The Pantry tried to mount a three-run comeback at the bottom of the seventh inning, but We Care locked in on defense in the final stretch to win the game 13-10.
After a 4-0 first-inning lead in favor of the Bears, Dayna Halprin of CP scored their first run of the night to put the Pantry on the scoreboard. In the top of the third inning, three consecutive field errors by CP saw a five-run swing in favor of We Care, stretching their lead to 8-3 with CP heading back to the plate.
A missed opportunity to even the score in the bottom of the fifth for CP put a damper on a possible run. Four perfectly placed base hits in between the defense put We Care at a 13-9 advantage. These two teams laid it all on the line and had several players who stood out.
For the Pantry, Anna Puleo had three runs, Dayna Halprin, Chris Martinek, and Delia Brannan all finished the night with two runs. For the winning Bears, their key players were Carlie Bassney, Jackie Maree, and Brenda Reinshagen with three runs each and Tricia Tuttle on the mound, who pitched a complete game.
Game three will decide who comes away with the B League title.
