MONTICELLO – In the Collins Field late game showcase, Bat Girls Club put together an offensive showcase, easily defeating the Spitfires 33-6.
Bat Girls Club came out swinging in the top of the first inning, stringing together a series of hits that included two inside-the-park home runs to build a commanding 10-0 lead before the Spitfires could finally record the third out. The Spitfires answered with a brief rally in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 10-2.
After a quick first out in the second inning, Bat Girls Club resumed its offensive attack, adding four more runs to extend its lead. The Spitfires refused to go quietly, responding with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning before Bat Girls Club finally recorded the final out.
The game broke open in the third. After recording two quick outs, Bat Girls Club let loose for eight runs in a rally that seemed endless, stretching the advantage to 22-6. Their defense then took over, retiring the side in order with a pop fly and two routine outs to keep the Spitfires off the scoreboard.
Bat Girls Club continued to pile it on in the fourth inning. After scoring three runs with only one out, they needed just one more run to trigger the mercy rule. The Spitfires briefly kept their hopes alive with a key catch in the outfield for the second out, but Bat Girls Club responded with another eight-run surge before the inning ended, pushing the score to 33-6.
Facing a steep deficit in the bottom of the fourth, the Spitfires battled until the final out, but were unable to extend the game as the mercy rule brought the contest to an end.
