BCANY recognizes Section IX Top-50 girls

MAYBROOK — Basketball players and their families gathered at the Otterkill Country Club on March 12 for an awards banquet hosted by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY).

It was the 21st annual BCANY Section IX Girls’ Basketball Awards Ceremony. The list represents approximately seven percent of the girls basketball players this year from Class AAA to Class D.

The program read, “Your selection to this elite group speaks to your consistency, effort, talent, dedication and success on the basketball court.”

From Class AA, Monticello’s Amiah Neails made the list. The Lady Panther was a force on both sides of the ball, leading the team in scoring and grabbing rebounds in bunches.

In the C/D classification, Tri-Valley’s Jenna Carmody and Eldred’s Olivia Gonzalez made the Top-50 list for the season. Carmody’s sharpshooting ability and perimeter defense made her a valuable asset to the Lady Bears all season long.

Gonzalez was a key defender and second-chance specialist for the Lady Yellowjackets, pulling boards and putting them up for easy points. Her ability to block shots in the paint helped Eldred on their way to a Section IX Class D Championship this season.

Sullivan West had great representation on the Top-50 list with three players earning a spot. Abby Parucki, Ella Herbert and Nicole Reeves were all honored at the banquet.

Parucki and Reeves were two guards who spread the floor and made life difficult for opposing defenses with their ability to shoot with a high percentage from range.

Herbert’s hybrid offensive style, working both in the paint and from mid to long-range, added to the well-rounded Sullivan West squad.

The Lady Bulldogs were also the only basketball team in Sullivan County to win a playoff game this winter.
