MONGAUP VALLEY –– Dutch’s Tavern could only field 8 players on Wednesday night, making for a relatively short game in their loss to the Callicoon Pantry 21 to 1.

Callicoon Pantry showed good discipline and patience at the plate, wearing down Dutch’s pitching, and doing a lot of damage at the plate. The Pantry’s Ashley Szuba led the way with a single, a triple, and a home run. She finished the evening with 5 RBI’s.

Dayna Halprin also had an exceptional game for the Pantry, recording a walk, a single, and a triple. She also provided the most exciting play of the game, smashing an inside-the-park grand slam! She drove in a total of 5 runs in the game.

Dutch’s Tavern fought valiantly. Becca Wood executed a single-handed double play by fielding a line drive, then tagging the base before the runner could get back. Lori Haas had two hits, and Kaitlyn Cross had their only RBI.

Despite their immense efforts, Dutch’s players were spread too thin in the field, leaving plenty of gaps for the Pantry to hit through. They [the Pantry] took full advantage of their opponent’s handicap in the field.
