Elder and Deacon of The First Presbyterian Church

Elizabeth (Betty) Peters, 91, born in 1932 in NY and passed away peacefully February 24, 2024 at her home. She was the daughter of John Ray and Nellie Manning and was raised for a time by Harvey and Alice Neil.  

She graduated from Jeffersonville High School and married Burgess Peters June 29, 1952. They have celebrated 71 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. They started an ice cream business together and in 1967 they opened the doors to Price Rite Boat and Camper sales.

She was a loving wife, business partner, mother, grandmother and friend. She was an avid reader, card shark and she loved her puzzles. Betty lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She loved just chatting with her friends and family. Her humor always provoked laughter. She will be deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered. 

Betty loved God and was a proud member of The First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville. She was an elder and Deacon of the church. She was the president of the Women’s Association. She was a member of the Red Hatters Association.  She was a Sunday school teacher and spent 13 years in the girl scouts.  

Betty was preceded in death by her brother (Sonny), and sisters Rose and Katie, her daughters Corrine and Bonnie and her grandson Patrick whom she lovingly raised. She leaves behind her husband Burgess Peters, her son Kurt Peters and his wife Debbie; her grandchildren Amber (Luis) and Jonathan and her great-grandchildren Jaime, Makayla, Gavin, Anelise and Gavin.

Visitation will be held at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 5068 Route 52, P.O. Box 213, Jeffersonville, NY 12748 on February 29, 2024 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home March 1, 2024 at 10am. Burial to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery in North Branch and immediately following a luncheon will be served at the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville.
