MONTICELLO – Last Wednesday evening under the pleasant summer weather Charlie’s Angels put together one of their most dominant offensive performances of the season, exploding for a 21-1 victory over Callicoon Pantry.
Callicoon struck first in the opening inning despite recording two quick outs. An overthrow at first allowed a runner to advance to second, and moments later a sharp double brought the runner home to give the Pantry an early 1-0 lead, but that advantage disappeared almost immediately.
Charlie’s Angels answered with an offensive barrage in the bottom of the first. After opening the inning with back-to-back hits, a deep inside-the-park home run cleared the bases to put the Angels ahead 3-1. The lineup never slowed down. A string of timely hits plated five more runs before a bases-loaded triple drove in three additional runners. An infield error on a single added another run, and one more base hit capped the remarkable inning with the Angels holding a commanding 13-1 lead.
Callicoon was unable to generate a response in the second. After two quick outs, an infield error briefly put a runner aboard, but the next batter was retired to end the threat.
The Angels continued to pile it on in the bottom half, stringing together another wave of hits to score seven more runs and stretch the lead to 20-1 before three straight outs ended the inning. With the margin reaching 19 runs, Charlie’s Angels stood just one run away from invoking the third-inning mercy rule if they could keep Callicoon off the scoreboard.
Callicoon’s final opportunity never materialized. Two quick outs put the Pantry in a difficult spot before Charlie’s Angels recorded the third out, preserving the 20-1 advantage and setting up a chance to end the contest.
In the bottom of the third, the Angels wasted little time. After an opening out, three consecutive singles loaded the bases, and the next hit brought home the winning run, ending the game by the mercy rule with a decisive 21-1 final.
Charlie’s Angels combined relentless hitting with steady defense throughout the evening, overwhelming Callicoon from the first inning onward and closing out an impressive three-inning victory.
