MONTICELLO – L&B Tack wasted little time asserting itself last week at Collins Field, scoring early and often in an 18-1 victory over We Care that ended after five innings.
The heavily favored Tack squad dominated from the outset, retiring We Care in order in the top of the first before its offense erupted. A string of well-placed hits produced three early runs, and after continuing to pressure the defense, Tack broke the game open with an inside-the-park home run that also plated two runners, capping a six-run inning for a commanding 6-0 lead.
The defense remained airtight in the second, recording three consecutive infield outs. Tack’s bats stayed hot in the bottom half as several singles set up a deep two-run double to extend the advantage to 8-0. With the bases loaded, another single drove in two more runs before one final score made it 11-0 heading into the third.
We Care continued to struggle against Tack’s defense, going down in order again in the third. Tack added another run in the bottom of the inning to stretch the lead to 12-0.
We Care showed a brief spark in the fourth, collecting a single after two outs, but the runner was left stranded. Tack threatened to add to its lead in the bottom half by loading the bases, but We Care escaped further damage with a pair of outs before any additional runs crossed the plate.
Tack quickly closed the door in the fifth, once again. In the bottom half, the home team wasted no time ending the contest. After bringing home one run with no outs and two runners aboard, several more extra-base hits fueled a final offensive surge as Tack pushed across six more runs to secure the 18-1 mercy-rule victory.
