Liberty celebrates seniors on Monday afternoon

LIBERTY — The Lady Yellowjackets improved to 6-4 on the season after defeating Liberty 16-4 on Monday afternoon. Prior to the game, Liberty recognized their seven seniors with a ceremony.

It was a close game until the final two innings when Eldred put up 10 runs to build an insurmountable lead. Lindsay Zgrodek went 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Olivia Gonzalez was 3-4 with three runs scored. Ksenia Sosnowski went 2-3 with a double and three RBI. Chloe Warming was the winning pitcher, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.

Liberty’s offense was paced by Quinn Allen and Olivia Dworetsky who each had two hits. Mya Huebsch also added a double for the RedHawks. Liberty’s record dropped to 5-11 after the loss.

Golf

Sullivan West earned their second win of the season as they squared off against Fallsburg at the Villa Roma on Monday afternoon.

Abby Parucki shot a match-best 44 in the win, followed by Maggie Powell (62) and Ryan McElroy (63). Fallsburg was led by Sophia Jacobs, who shot a 46 and Natalia Evangelista shot a 69 as Fallsburg dropped to 0-13 on the season.

Softball

Tri-Valley visited Port Jervis and lost via a walkoff to lose 4-3 in seven innings. Tri-Valley knocked nine hits in the game, including three singles by Jenna Carmody and a double by Kaitlin Stungis. The game was back and forth, with Port Jervis getting the first run across in the bottom of the second. Tri-Valley asnwered in the third and the game continued into the 7th. Down 3-1, Tri-Valley was able to equalize the game, but Port Jervis was able to use the home half of the inning to get the final run across and win 4-3.

After their win over Liberty, Eldred faced off against O’Neill on Tuesday, losing a heartbreaking 5-3 contest after the Raiders managed to score four in the top of the 7th inning. Eldred’s Christina Schafer went 3-3 with a double, triple and three runs scored, and Ksenia Sosnowski had a double, going 1-3. The two combined for all four of Eldred’s hit in the losing effort.

Liberty followed up their loss to Eldred with a game against Port Jervis. They faced a tough pitching matchup, being no-hit over five innings in a 12-0 loss. With the win, Port Jervis clinched the OCIAA Division 3 title, and Alesandra Rivera was the only baserunner for Liberty in the loss.

Tri-Valley traveled to Fallsburg on Tuesday for a non-league game, and the Bears took down the Comets 16-1. The Bears’ pitchers combined for a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 12 batters.
