Rodney J. Baumert of Liberty, NY, a retired Diagnostic Manager for Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha, NE and a ten-year area resident, died Friday, September 22, 2023 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, NY.  He was 75.

The son of the late Adolph and Irene Uhing Baumert, he was born November 1, 1947 in West Point, NE.

Rodney was proud to have served Our County in the US Air Force for twenty years.  He was a Communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty and a member of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545.  He enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time walking his dog, Bryn.

Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Hayes Baumert, at home; one son, Joel Baumert and his wife Sarah of Maryland; one daughter, Kimberly Pirtle and her husband Kirk, of Maryland; two step-daughters, Deborah Benjamin of Liberty, NY and Melissa Robinson of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Ronald Baumert (his twin) and his wife Cecelia of IA and Joseph Baumert and his wife Leilani of the Philippines; five sisters, Kathleen Baumann and her husband James of KY, Maxine McElligott and her husband Terry of NE, Mary Powers and her husband Phil of KS, Peggy Schicker and her husband Bob of FL and Teresa Barber and her husband Stan of NE; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by a sister, Janice McCullough.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 3-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10 AM in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY.  Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be in the Veteran’s section of the Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.

Memorial contributions in Rodney’s name may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754.
