MONROE-WOODBURY – “We will be a better team next season,” said Eldred Coach Bill Furler on their Monday night loss to Argyle Central School in the Section IX State Quarterfinals.

“We had one goal to start the season: bring back the Class D Championship to Eldred. Now for next season, we add, to win the regional final, to our list!”

The Yellowjackets finish 6-8 on the season. Their Monday night game against Argyle was a perfect display of two well-matched teams. In the end, Eldred made errors on several big plays, that turned the tables in favor of the Scots, but they didn’t go down without fighting grit. The game was close. At the bottom of the third inning, Argyle was up 1-0, but by the bottom of the next inning, the ‘jackets had swung to a 2-1 lead.

Giada Donato pitched a CG and put up solid bat work on offense, going 2-3 with 3 RBI, 1 SB, and 1 double. Her season ERA is 3.55, and she threw 71 k’s. Junior, Olivia Gonzalez went 2-3 and had 2 runs and one double. Sydney Furler touted an exceptional .537 batting average this season with 22 runs, 22 hits, 5-2B, 1-3B, 14 RBI, and 15 SB. Marissa Gochenour completed the season with 11 hits, 10 RBI, and 1-3B. Emma Bisland and Chelsea Potter held a batting average of .286 this season.

This 6-3 loss to the Argyle Scots ended the 2025 season for the Yellowjackets. Having to replace six starting positions and adding four underclassmen in the starting lineup, Coach Furler knew this would be a year of rebuilding. Furler said, “As the season went on, we developed into a really good team.  Giada Donato really turned into a No. 1 pitcher. She is a future star in the sport. Olivia and Sydney continue to produce big numbers for the team. Both were named to their 3rd section 9 all-star team. Syd calls 99 % of the game herself.

She works extremely hard with Giada, and it shows the trust they have in each other. We gave ourselves a chance to win, but we left too many girls on base. Our defense let us down. It’s tough to win with 7 errors, but you’ll have that with a young team.”

Next year, the entire team lineup will return to the dugout for the Yellowjackets.
