So long, sweet summer

Posted

As we depart from the busy season of summer, we want to point out our happiness at the fact that safety on the Delaware River appears to be well practiced by our countless visitors and locals who use the flow of the water for rafting, kayaking, fishing and so much more.

The river has, for the most part, been kind to us this summer. To those who took to the river at any time these past few months, thank you for wearing your life jacket and treating the river with the respect it deserves and demands from both year-round and seasonal residents.

We are grateful to have seen such great use out of the great resource we all share, with the county receiving its regular economic and social summer boosts without constant tragedy on the water, as it has been known in the past to create for those who are not careful.

Success for this summer was seen both on the water and off with trademark attractions that keep everyone smiling throughout the summer, such as classical theater at the Forestburgh Playhouse and at Shadowland Stages, numerous talented musicians at the Shandelee music festival, star-studded shows at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and other festivals and parades that gave new breath almost weekly to the hamlets and towns of the county.

Golf was once again another fantastic draw to the outdoors. The county and surrounding area claims 10 pristine and up-to-date courses that have allowed a reasonable amount of time to golfers to practice their Green Jacket-earning driving and putting.

Although the red month of August signals the closing of summer festivities, it does not mean the shutting down of everything in the county. So many Fall-themed events to look forward to – so keep your eyes peeled and your energy high. Familiar scenes of a chilled window in the morning, crisp orange leaves greeting the ground with a hug after a whole season of waving hello when the breeze went through, and Halloween decorations already going up (if they weren’t left up from last year) are just a few things to look forward to.
