MONGAUP VALLEY–– The B league Championship series went 3 games with the final header played Wednesday night at Collins Park. We Care Bears took home the title over the Callicoon Pantry with a score of 17-11.
The game started later than scheduled due to the rain, and the first few innings were played in somewhat soggy conditions.
Less than ideal field conditions didn’t seem to affect either team. Both squads fought hard and played well, as one would expect in a championship title game. We Care Bears made sure to capitalize on the momentum they gained from winning the previous night’s game and came out swinging.
Up and down the line-up, they drove line drives that found the gaps and, in many cases, made it all the way to the wall, allowing their base runners to make it around and pile on the runs.
The Pantry women played hard, but they couldn’t match the firepower of the Bears. Callicoon let an early lead slip away, and by the third inning, they were playing from behind.
The lead grew as the innings moved forward, and the Bears dampened the Pantry’s hopes of mounting any comeback. Jenna Given played very well for the Pantry, getting 4 hits and 3 RBIs.
The Bears were led by Becca Scherer, who had a home run, a triple, and 4 RBIs. Carlie Bassney also shined with a complete game, batting for a triple and 4 RBIs while striking out 4 from the mound.
The Bears showed great attitude all season, never missing an opportunity to have some fun, while also playing quality softball. Their hard work paid off this season by bringing home the B league title.
