Shutout of Liberty the latest win by talented Lady Bulldogs

LAKE HUNTINGTON – Looking forward to their clash with the unbeaten Tri-Valley Bears next week which will serve as Sullivan West’s senior night, the Lady Bulldogs kept the focus on the here and now by making short work of Liberty.

All it took was a pair of goals from Viola Shami and superb work in the midfield and goal to keep the Lady Indians at bay. In the process, Sullivan West improved to 7-2-2, while rebuilding Liberty fell to 2-6. In small school sports, teams’ success is cyclical, and one needn’t look back too far to days when Ann Ramos’ teams were far more threatening as no doubt, they will be again.

But on this lovely fall afternoon, the balance of power was clearly in the ladies in Black. The Westies peppered Liberty keepers with 42 shots in all, with 25 of them on goal. Liberty, for its part, was only able to marshal nine shots with six on goal. SW keeper Elanie Herbert rebuffed all six shots that came her way. Liberty’s Jennifer Jaden was unable to repel the two well-placed shots by Shami.

Sullivan West looked to continue its winning ways in its third game of the season against Livingston Manor yesterday. The Lady Bulldogs won the first two outings. Fine passing, good communication and winning the vast majority of the 50-50 balls have been key for Sullivan West which counts only losses to powerful Class B O’Neill and a loss in the Downsville tournament against their seven wins to date.
