Thomas Francis Hallenbeck, Sr., of South Fallsburg, NY, passed away in the early morning hours on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 peacefully at home. He was 94. He was the son of the late Anna and William J. Hallenbeck, born on June 7, 1929 in Livingston Manor, New York.

Thomas worked at the Flagler Riding Academy in Fallsburg before enlisting in the United States Army in 1947 at the age of 18 where he was an Ordnance Parts Clerk stationed in both Korea and Japan. He was a blaster during the construction of the Neversink Reservoir, mechanic at Moe Oretsky’s Garage in South Fallsburg, and owned his own auto repairs / body and fender business.

He enjoyed being with his family, watching his favorite movies and television shows, playing his guitar, caring for pets, feeding the birds, camping, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Sheep Hill Rod & Gun Club.. 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Carrie; his son, Thomas (Missy); his daughters Bonnie (Albert) and Gloria (Charles); his grandchildren, Carolyn (Nicholas), Joanna (Christian), Sarah, and Rebecca (Jamie); his great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Benjamin and Richard; sister Anna; brother Donald; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother William and sisters Margaret, Agnes and Rosalina.

As per Thomas’ request, he will be cremated and no funeral or memorial services will be held.

The family has only admiration and respect for Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties for their professionalism, thoughtfulness, compassion, and kindness.
