Warren Brey, a resident of Kenoza Lake NY and Tavares FL, departed this life and entered eternal rest in heaven on January 11th, 2024 after a short but courageous battle with lymphoma. He was 87 years young.

Born on September 30th, 1936, he was the youngest of three boys raised by Elsie and Harold on Brey’s Egg Farm.

When he was a young man, he decided to drive to California in his convertible car. He stayed with his aunt and cousins. He had a job in a potato chip factory. He received a letter from his dad asking him to come home. Upon arriving home, he decided to pursue other jobs besides poultry farming and went to work for Kohler Lumber Company. An opportunity came along to work at the newly opened Job Corps Center in Callicoon, NY. The manager asked if anyone knew what a “striker” was (it is a special type of paint brush), and Warren was the only one in the room who knew. He was hired on the spot. He held several positions at Job Corp over the years, and retired in 1998.

Warren was the past chief of the Kenoza Lake Fire Department, a board member of the Kenoza Lake Cemetery Association, and a member of the Kenoza Lake Methodist Church.

On August 23, 1964 he married Eileen Gloor and settled on a piece of property given to him in Kenoza Lake. Warren and Eileen had two daughters, Stephanie and Jill.

Warren is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen, daughters Stephanie (Mark) Tyler, Jill (Todd) Lewis and grandchildren Meredith and Ethan Lewis, as well as his oldest brother William, several beloved nephews and nieces, and Janice Brey, the wife of his predeceased brother Roger.

He loved to socialize with people. He was always joking and needed to explain everything even if you didn’t ask a question! He was a bit of an instigator…often trying to pull a prank and see how long it would take for you to figure it out. He loved to laugh and his smile and “never grow up” personality will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Life will be held in NY spring/summer 2024.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the Kenoza Lake Methodist Church Cemetery Upkeep Fund, c/o Linda Tyler, 408 Burr Rd, Cochecton, NY 12726.
