We Care Bears survive last minute win over Callicoon Pantry

MONGAUP VALLEY–– In the second game Wednesday night, the We Care Bears came out on top of a hard-fought game that came down to the last play. In the end, it was We Care who persevered over the Callicoon Pantry 15 to 14.

The toughness of these women showed in their play out in the field. The short stops for both teams, Melissa Porter for the Bears and Miranda Faber for the Pantry, each took hot shot grounders off their body to keep the balls in the infield and prevent runs from scoring. Becca Sheerer of the Bears showed nice range in the outfield, catching a fly ball in the gap, and Callicoon’s Delia Brannan pitched well, recording 3 strike-outs.

It was one of those games where everyone contributed. The standouts for Callicoon were Melissa Fanning, 4 hits and 3 RBI’s, and Demi Cruz, who had 2 RBI’s and a home run. For the Bears, Becca Sheerer had 5 RBI’s and a home run, and Brenda Reinshagen had 3 doubles, a single, and 4 RBI’s.

The two teams battled back and forth all night, until finally, it all came down to the last play of the game. It started with a hard-hit ball by Kaylee Wagner of Callicoon with the bases loaded and 2 outs already registered. The first two runners made it around home, but before the final runner could score the tying run, the ball made it back to the Bears Catcher Cassi Velasquez, who blocked the plate successfully and recorded the final out of the game.
