SULLIVAN COUNTY –– As the old proverb goes, winter comes fast on the lazy. As snow still sits on the ground from this past weekend’s storm, another system was forecasted to impact the region through last night and today. As of presstime, snowfall predictions vary, with totals ranging from six to nine inches.

Regardless of the total snowfall, preparations are being made.

“This is the kind of storm for which we’re well-prepared,” County Manager Josh Potosek told the Democrat. “We’ll be in regular communication with our first responders and utility companies for any power outages or other emergencies throughout the duration of this event, and our Division of Public Works team will ensure our plow truck drivers get a needed rest break late Thursday night before resuming their work early Friday morning.”

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) stated in a release that they’re preparing for high winds associated with the winter storm.

“Current forecasts call for wind gusts potentially reaching 40-50 mph and icing, to begin early Thursday in Western New York and then move east across the state,” said NYSEG. “...The ice and snow have the potential to bring down trees and limbs, causing damage to overhead power lines and other electrical equipment. The companies urge customers to monitor local forecasts and prepare for the possibility of service interruptions.”
