Monticello senior Evan Waterton captures the early lead in the 3000 Steeplechase in the Federation Championship. He finished fourth overall and second among Division I competitors thereby garnering two medals, which were added to his two won the day before in the 3200. Waterton finished fourth at Nationals in the 2k Steeplechase earning a top five spot in the nation in the event.

Monticello’s Evan Waterton was nothing short of spectacular. He shattered the school and county records in the 3000 steeplechase with his time of 9:13.79 with his second place D1 finish which was fourth overall. In the 1600 he set a PR and school record of 4:17.18 but did not medal. On Friday he made history with his 3200 finish in 9:12.42, which got him his first medal of the weekend. That was also a school record and his personal best. He finished fifth among D1 racers and sixth overall in the event.

Tri-Valley’s Adam Furman (right) and Craig Costa will join teammates Caleb Edwards and Van Furman to compete in the Division II 4x800 relay at the state championships this coming weekend at Cicero North High School in Syracuse. Furman will also vie in the 3200 and the 1600, while Edwards will contend in the 3000 steeplechase. These four Bears are part of the ten athlete county contingent going to states this spring.
