National Senior Citizens Day

We were very proud to highlight National Senior Citizens Day that was on August 21. There is a great personal reward in being able to offer advice and point our elderly residents of the county in the direction of better services and opportunities.

While we cherish our older population as vital members of our community, it is always a good time to remind our readers that scamming is a multi-billion dollar industry and there are countless thieves and two-faced liars who do not share the same admiration and respect for our elderly neighbors as we do.

These scams come in many forms and often play on the generous hearts of people who just want to help others, especially when the lies being told by scammers involve loved ones. It is only natural to be taken aback when faced with a dilemma, which often comes as a shock and out of the blue.

It should be noted that anyone and everyone can easily become a victim of fraud and scams, however it is the elderly who seem to be the most vulnerable. If you know or are close with a member of the older population, we urge you to be proactive in fighting against the elder abuse that is scamming.

Those who practice these evil tactics have endless ways on how to scam people out of their money better, faster and more efficiently. Their ideas are endless and therefore so must be our vigilance.

Scam artists are not going away and we must constantly be on the watch for anything that might seem insincere.

In addition to more information on avoiding scams, the National Senior Citizens Day insert offers more information on transportation services within the county.

Getting to where you need to go is essential for daily living in the country, and for a handful of our elders, driving can be tricky. Thankfully, there are services that assist with transportation ready and available to give you a boost.
